The New Balance 2002R is a remastered version of the 2002, and was relaunched in 2020 to celebrate the silhouette’s 10-year anniversary. The sneaker combines the original’s multi-material upper with the sole unit from New Balance’s 860v2, for a slightly updated look. Originally launched as a hyper-premium, $250 running shoe that drew inspiration from luxury automobiles and watches, the 2002 was designed with then-New Balance CEO Rob DeMartini in mind. ABZORB cushioning in the midsole — a key part of any New Balance sneaker — is paired with an N-ergy outsole. That means that the 2002R, technically a lifestyle shoe, packs a performance punch under its hood.
