A Ma Maniére Has Done the Impossible: Converse Chuck Taylors With a Nike Swoosh
A Ma Maniére, the fashion label and retailer that just unleashed the biggest Nike collaboration in years, has revealed it has another trick up its sleeve.
At a dinner in London, it presented guests with the ultimate mash-up shoe: a Converse Chuck Taylor with a Nike swoosh.
America's two most famous footwear brands collide on one shoe.
It's by no means a novel concept, others have tried to do it in the past (including Virgil Abloh) but A Ma Maniére becomes the first brand to have done it officially. This isn't a bootleg, it's the real thing, presented at a dinner hosted with Converse.
The brand has used a beige-hued canvas Chuck 70 (a more premium, chunky-soled version of the Chuck Taylor) as its base and added a thick black Nike swoosh to the outside — on the inside, the usual Converse branding remains. And an extra piece of Nike branding can be found on the metal lace charm.
Currently only a friends and family affair, this shoe is highly limited with 100 pairs in the world. However, there's no saying whether it could get a wider release.
A Ma Maniére just pulled off a huge Nike collaboration consisting of six premium-made sneakers along with matching clothing collections, so the two brands have a history of making big ideas a reality.
That collection, a celebration of A Ma Maniére's ten-year anniversary, is the biggest Nike collaboration since Virgil Abloh dropped "The Ten" back in 2017. And, interestingly, Abloh wanted to create a similar sneaker at that time.
"The goal was to put a Swoosh on a Chuck Taylor, which is sort of like a figurative dream project," the Off-White founder wrote in a book dissecting the creation of his Nike collection. He was ultimately unable to make this dream project happen.
Others have also tried to make this blending of iconic brands a reality.
Most notably, Market (at that time known as Chinatown Market) created a custom Chuck Taylor sneaker with a Nike swoosh that LeBron James wore back in 2018.
But nobody was able to make this combination of Chuck Taylor with Nike iconography possible until now. A Ma Maniére has finally done it.
