Rosalía For Acne Studios Is a Work of Art
Since skyrocketing to mega stardom in 2019, Rosalía has barely had a second.
From winning awards (including no less than eight Latin Grammys) and securing ten number-one singles in her native Spain, to global tours and even curating her own Grand Theft Auto Online radio station, the 30 year old has found the perfect formula.
Now, in the midst of a global tour with her third studio album Motomami, the singer-songwriter has added another string to her ever-growing bow, after being revealed as the face of Acne Studios’ FW22 campaign.
Captured by Dutch artist Paul Kookier, the Swedish label’s campaign – which drops alongside the apparel – reinterprets the Spanish musician as a historical muse via a series of intimate images, each of which presents key garments from the brand’s recent runway collection.
“When I pose for a photographer, I always try to be myself but also try to channel an energy,” explained Rosalía, who is currently on tour with her third studio album Motomami.
“What appealed to me the most about working with Paul [Kooiker] was that he has an atemporal style, his pictures could have been taken when photography was invented,” she continued. “But, at the same time, he transmits a freshness of the moment. His pictures are badass.”
As well as spotlighting one of music’s current trailblazers in Rosalía, Kookier also manages to showcase the intricate materiality that anchors the Acne collection – in particular, her favorite jersey boots and sunglasses combo.
“The campaign tried to capture Rosalía in a way she is rarely seen,” explained Kookier.
“While shooting the videos, I discovered that her movements were so strong and confident that we continued this way of working for the stills. The approach was to shoot the contemporary collection in a timeless and historical atmosphere.”
On her admiration for both the collection and the brand itself, Rosalía added: “I love how bold but elegant everything is. To me, Acne Studios is a brand that takes care with the fabrics, the colors, the textures – everything is so well thought through, impeccable and fresh.”
