Editor’s Notes: adidas Originals today announced the lead release from its Spezial FW19 range, the all-new Blackburn SPZL. Designed by Gary Aspden and named after the town he grew up in, the Blackburn SPZL will be available in two versions, a regular retail version and a special ‘Nightsafe’ version. The latter will be available at a special Spezial exhibition at the British Textile Biennial from October 4 to October 20 and is limited to just 200 pairs. All proceeds will benefit Nightsafe, a local charity that supports homeless and vulnerably housed young people in the Blackburn with Darwen area.

Archivist and adidas collaborator Gary Aspden once again looks to substance and storytelling over hype for this latest adidas Blackburn makeup. Establishing himself as a juxtaposition to other adidas collaborators like Pharrell Williams or Kanye West, Aspden's design narratives often revolve around UK culture.

Check out the Blackburn SPZL above, as well as a preview of the Spezial exhibition below, where over 1000 pairs of Spezial footwear will be on show.
