Editor’s Notes: When adidas unveiled its original Ultraboost back in 2015, it immediately became the shoe of the year. Collaborations and general releases flew off of shelves at an insane rate. The Ultraboost 20, a long-awaited update, failed to excite, as it was caught in no man's land, somewhere between style and performance. Perhaps recognizing this, adidas has gone all-in on performance with the Ultraboost 21, finally giving the silhouette the update it deserves.

A simple look at the Ultraboost 21 shows that this sneaker is built differently. The midsole features 6 percent more Boost than its predecessor, most of it likely in the chunky heel of the shoe. The sole also features Linear Energy Push, an all-new torsion bar that provides less flex and more responsiveness.

The adidas Ultraboost 21 is set to be released on February 4 worldwide, retailing for $180.
