When adidas unveiled its UltraBOOST silhouette back in 2015, it was dubbed “the greatest running shoe ever”. Of course, a bold statement, but arguably one with plenty of clout.

At the time arriving as one of the first tech-heavy performance sneakers on the market, the UltraBOOST was laden with its-now epochal energy-returning midsole, a snug Primeknit upper, and an internal Torsion system that improved both performance and stability. Then unlike any other silhouettes on the market, it’s safe to say it was a sneaker ahead of its time.

Fast-forward to 2022 and the UltraBOOST arsenal is over twenty strong. While aesthetically it may have been tweaked (see the UltraBOOST 22 for the most recent iteration), its internal make-up remains relatively unchanged.

Originally released as a high-performance shoe, the UltraBOOST’s versatility has seen it infiltrate a myriad of different subcultures thanks to several collaborations, most notably with the likes of Palace, BAIT, and Beyoncé’s IVY PARK label.

For Spring/Summer 2022, another collaboration is on the menu, this time with brand skater and artist Mark Gonzales. Venturing into the world of skateboarding for the first time with the UltraBOOST, Gonzales reimagines the silhouette through his artistic lens, utilizing his famed “Shmoo” character along the way.

Set to land online June 11, the “UltraBOOST by Mark Gonzales” – as it’s officially titled – is designed as the ultimate chiller to be worn in-between skate sessions, and features all the usuals we’ve come to expected from the silhouette – plus a four-color reflective multi-weave addition on the upper.

Renowned for riding unconventional skateboards and performing audacious tricks, Gonzales’ UltraBOOST DNA is undeniably an emblematic release of his unwavering approach to life and his unique creative interpretation.
