Editor’s Notes: adidas' A-ZX series continues with a ZX 5000 inspired by one of the most celebrated design achievements in adidas' history– the invention of the Torsion bar.

When adidas launched the ZX series in the late '80s as a range of high-performance runners, it changed the future of running shoes forever. The shoes were a huge leap forward in the industry thanks to a number of factors including the Torsion bar – a groundbreaking invention that provided extra support for the arch and enabled the for- and rear-foot to move independently.

To ensure the best performance, the Torsion bar was – and continues to be – made from Kevlar, a synthetic fiber with exceptionally high heat and torsion resistance used in everything from racing tires to bulletproof vests. The Torsion bar has since become one of adidas' most lauded proprietary technologies, and the ZX 5000 Torsion pays tribute to it with its yellow colorway, which is lifted directly from Kevlar’s distinct yellow hue.

This release is part of adidas’ A-ZX program, a series of 26 ZX sneakers dropping throughout 2020-21. To see what’s dropped so far and what’s coming next, head here.
