In today’s creative climate, collaboration is king. Recent years have seen the fashion world unlock a penchant for aesthetic fusion which has made existing as an isolated brand near-impossible. And the best collaborations – or at least, the ones that get the internet talking – are those that are unexpected. Crocs and Balenciaga, Louis Vuitton and Supreme: these are the genre-crossing link-ups that define the luxury fashion landscape today.

How about Android? Well, as far as fashion collabs go, it certainly ticks the unexpected box. But this isn’t just another partnership which combines a non-fashion name with high-end clothing quality. No, Android is positioning itself not as mere collaborator, but as facilitator – this year, with the release of the new Circle to Search function, it wants you to step outside your social circle, find inspiration in places you wouldn’t normally, and expand beyond your limits.

Android, Android

Android put this challenge directly to Futurist and JanaxNell. These two internet personalities, from wholly different fields, were brought together to create an Android-inspired garment. Futurist, an avant-garde creative whose fashion videos position him as a kind of video game avatar playing virtual dress-up, has amassed over 2 million followers on TikTok; Jana, meanwhile, is an online creator whose eclectic, ever-changing style has solidified her as an absolute icon for German-speaking youth. But how would their styles collide? We sat down with the two of them to find out about how their ongoing collaboration is coming along.

“Marvin works with a completely different aesthetic to me,” says Jana. “His videos are much more intricately edited, and his clothing style is also very clear. My content doesn’t just focus on fashion, I often just post things that pop into my head. Nevertheless, we work really well as a team and complement each other well.”

Despite the differences in their process, Jana says there were surprising similarities in the garment they both wanted to create. “We actually both had a similar idea. Mine was perhaps a bit more concrete, but we were able to combine them very easily.” Delving into the specifics, Futurist reveals that the two creatives were both set on incorporating tech functionality, including a hand or a glove to hold the phone in the design.

“The piece is definitely going to be functional,” continues Futurist, “and the material we are using is going to be waterproof.” But Jana focuses more on the fun: “Our finished garment will definitely be crazy!” she says. “If everything works out the way I imagined, then you definitely won’t have seen anything like this before! Maybe one or two people will also get our humor behind it. Stay tuned.”

Android, Android

The project is testament to the power of creativity, collaboration, and problem solving. Jana calls out the construction phase as its biggest challenge. “Neither of us are trained editing technicians,” she says, “but we are both very creative – so we had to see how we could bring our crazy ideas into reality.”

As facilitator to the project, a kind of collaborative engine, Android helped do just that – turn ideas into reality. It allows spontaneous, even muddled creative thinking to be harnessed and directed. Jana says that she “comes up with so many ideas that I sometimes can't even keep up with and write them down. When I'm triggered by the right inspiration, miracles can happen.” Futurist, meanwhile, would describe his creative superpower as consistent “development.” With the help of Android, this is an unexpected collab between two creatives united by their drive, their wide-ranging inspiration, and their ability to bring abstract visions to life. Stay tuned for the final result.
