A$AP Rocky Isn't Scared of the Blazer & Shorts Combo
A$AP Rocky is riding a high. Last week, he and Rihanna finally took modern pop culture’s ultimate match for a public outing and had us all wanting what they had — a perfect couple’s fit.
The confidence that can only come from such life moves is translating in A$AP Rocky’s individual looks, too, with the artist stepping out in the much-feared blazer and short combination in New York yesterday.
Making this combo work is all about perfecting the smart/casual balance. A$AP Rocky does exactly that, centering the look on a very formal Celine blazer while a loose-fitting pair of CDG checked shorts, white socks, a striped low-neck tee, and a trucker cap provide all the right doses of casualness that the jacket needs. Down below, a pair of black derby shoes put the seal on formalities. That paper-thin Goyard pouch is fire, too.
This is a look that's had a tough time in terms of actually being cool — one that evokes images of Cambridge University boat boys and their terrible shoes for me. But the fortunes of the blazer and short combo look set to change, and it's not only Rocky leading the charge.
At Prada's SS22 runway show in Milan, shorts were paired proudly with oversized, sleeve-rolled blazers and I have to say — it looked great. Fendi put the duo to work as well during its SS22 display, albeit with a little more crop. There's a wind of breezier office wear blowing and it's very welcome.
