Editor’s Notes: After relaunching its GEL-Kayano 5 silhouette late last year, ASICS has now given us two fresh new colorways of the performance-turned-lifestyle sneaker. The first colorway channels the model’s ’90s heritage by pairing a white base with pops of different hues of green. A tan trim along the mudguard and midsole give the sneaker a nice two-tone effect that separates the upper and sole unit.

The second colorway does the same, swapping out the tan in favor of silver, with blue accents giving the sneaker a sleek look.

Originally released in 1999, the GEL-Kayano 5 was the fifth iteration of lead sneaker designer Toshikazu Kayano’s complete reimagining of ASICS' GEL running tech in sneaker form. While the Kayano line goes back to 1993, the GEL-Kayano 5 represented arguably the best version of the sneaker, one that toned down the louder ’90s-era design motifs in favor of tonal branding and well-placed pops of color.
