Editor’s Notes: Another New Balance 2002R from atmos? Honestly, I wouldn't haven't any other way.
atmos and New Balance continue their beautiful friendship with the delivery of another 2002R sneaker collaboration. Dubbed "Oasis," the shoe by the duo oozes the essence of a desert oasis.
Now, many think desert oases are a bit mysterious. And I can't blame them. If I saw a pool of water and trees in the middle of the desert, I'd think I had a mirage.
Quick geography lesson here: The water actually doesn't appear out of thin air in the middle of the dry land. See, an oasis can be created naturally through a spring or by man via an underground water source like an aquifer (fun fact: the Sahara Desert has 90 of them).
In short, the scenery is not to be feared. It's quite peaceful when you look at it. Fresh blue water? Surrounding greenery, sometimes including palm trees? It's like a secluded paradise in the middle of the desert.
Known to pay attention to detail (even when it involves rodents), atmos emphasizes those obvious and overlooked features of a desert oasis with its 2002R sneakers.
Teal blue strikes the model's heel shock absorbers and the oversized "N" on the upper, nodding to the pools encompassing the lush area. At the same time, the various shades of brown and greys signals to the desert's earthy hues.
The atmos x New Balance 2002R "Oasis" also boasts a combination of mesh, suede, and nubuck on the upper, capturing the essence of the desert landscape's various textures, like its smooth sand and rugged mountains.
I've become quite a fan of atmos' sneaker collabs and exclusive colorways. The Japanese brand is not only a master of detail but also knows its way around the color wheel. As a result, atmos manages to turn sneakers into tour guides and make ASICS look delectable.
With these 2002R "Oasis" under its belt, the brand can also check "turn sneakers into foot zen" off its list.
