Apparently, Balenciaga x Supreme ain't happening.
Rumors of a Balenciaga and Supreme's collection began swirling on November 19, with some leak-centric outlets claiming that an official Balenciaga x Supreme collaboration would arrive in spring.
In November 2022, Balenciaga's Spring/Summer 2023 presentation included its own take on Supreme's signature Box Logo t-shirt, almost hidden amongst the similarly outrageous products sent down the runway.
Days after the show, Balenciaga confirmed to Highsnobiety that its distressed Bogo-inspired tee wasn't a collaboration with Supreme.
It's instead just another Balenciaga spoof for the vault, in line with the brand's mock Apple tees.
Fast forward to March 28, the Balenciaga x Supreme campaign seemed to surface online, accompanying reports that the collaboration was no longer happening.
For some reason, the Balenciaga x Supreme photos emerged on a Kanye "Ye" West fanpage. In late 2022, Ye and Balenciaga professionally separated following the rapper's anti-Semitic outbursts.
Highsnobiety has reached out to Balenciaga for a comment regarding the purported campaign photos.
The rumored cancellation of Balenciaga and Supreme's collab comes months after the French luxury house's controversial ad scandal, resulting in a sort of restart from the brand and comparatively toned-down Fall/Winter 2023 collection.
While Balenciaga and Supreme share a few commonalities that make a linkup seem somewhat likely — wild accessories for one — many believe its a good thing that the collab was scrapped.
"Thank God," "Wouldn't cop anything based on this pics I've just seen," and "That's great, Supreme needs a revival, not a tombstone" were just some of the reactions on social media, the last one perhaps inspired by our own recent Supreme coverage.
Teaming up with Balenciaga wouldn't have been the first time Supreme joined forces with a luxury house, as the New York skate label previously dropped hyped collections with Burberry and Louis Vuitton. This would've been Supreme's first tie-up with a Kering-owned house, though.
