Editor's Notes: Thanks to its classic yet forward-thinking, refined approach to sneaker design, it's difficult to improve a Mizuno silhouette. More often than not, less is more, and several of its collaborative styles over the years have served as a testament to that.

Elevating styling through minimalistic retouching, carefully considered additional detailing, and deconstructing is the essence of BEAMS, making it the perfect candidate for retouching Mizuno's archive.

Regardless of the muse, BEAMS executes. Whether it's an understated GORE-TEX Wallabee (a seasonal must), a super low-key pair of Reeboks, or a full denim collection with Levi's, it always comes with its best.

Its efforts alongside Mizuno are no exception, possibly even an example of BEAMS at its peak.

In recent history, the duo has come together to deliver three styles, including the Sky Medal, Wave Creation Waveknit, and most recently, the Wave Rider 10 in 2020.

2022's follow-up largely follows the design cues established in the pair's last effort – a stripped-back construction, military-themed palette, and a keen focus on subtle design details.

The main difference between this pair and its predecessor is the lack of a traditional lacing system; instead, BEAMS opts for slip-on access, made obvious by the mesh tongue overlay. Thanks to the tonal, deep green rendering, branding is kept to a bare minimum, while each of the iconic wavey leather overlays boldly pop.

If the perfect Wave Rider 10 exists, this may well be it.
