Gucci — like many other luxury fashion houses over the past few years — has been toeing the line between high-end and street fashion and its sneakers have played a big role in the brand’s sustained popularity during that period. Led by its current creative director, Alessandro Michele, Gucci has established a two-pronged approach to its sneaker strategy, combining classic Gucci silhouettes such as the Tennis 1977 or Ace with more fashion-forward designs such as the Rhyton or Flashtrek.

Gucci sneakers are known for their use of red and green detailing, as well as intricate animal embroidery and bold logo placement. The Gucci Rhyton — the house’s answer to the chunky sneaker trend — has been reimagined in a number of different colorways and styles, ranging from pre-dirtied and distressed to New York Yankees logo-clad. Along with more fashion-focused and classic silhouettes, Gucci has also released sportswear-inspired sneakers such as the Ultrapace.

Over the past few seasons, Gucci’s popularity has waned slightly, giving way to competitor brands such as Balenciaga and Louis Vuitton, who have seen a sudden rise thanks to creative director Virgil Abloh. Still, Gucci sneakers are some of the most popular high-end shoes on the market, thanks in large part to the house’s wide variety of styles and the social status that comes with owning a pair of Gucci sneakers.

To help you stay on top of Gucci seemingly never-ending list of sneaker releases, we've compiled the best Gucci sneakers from 2019 and beyond in one easy-to-follow list.

Gucci Tennis 1977

Brand: Gucci

Model: Tennis 1977

Key Features: Gucci’s Tennis 1977 features canvas construction, heritage logo stitching, a classic web stripe, and a Tennis 1977 label.

Buy: Gucci

Editor’s Notes: Pulled straight from the Gucci archives, the Tennis 1977 was launched exclusively in Miami in December 2019 during Art Basel. First spotted in the house’s Cruise 2020 advertising campaign starring Gucci Mane, the sneaker boasts a refreshed interpretation of the original low-top.

Gucci Ultrapace

Brand: Gucci

Model: Ultrapace

Key Features: Gucci’s Ultrapace sneaker features uppers made from Tejus printed leather, leather, suede, metallic leather, and Lavaredo fabric; a tricolor rubber sole; hand-colored midsole; terry cloth lining; and various logo embellishments.

Buy: Gucci

Editor’s Notes: The vintage-inspired unisex Ultrapace landed in August 2019. Taking inspiration from classic running shoes, combined with Creative Director Alessandro Michele’s love for striking maximalism, the Ultrapace certainly stands out from the pack. Each colorway features its own unique combination of materials and details; ranging from vintage Gucci labels on the tongue to interlocking GG motifs and even embroidery and even high and mid top options.

Gucci Ace

Brand: Gucci

Model: Ace

Key Features: Gucci’s Ace sneaker features a classic tennis shoe silhouette with a rounded toe and rubber sole. A minimal leather upper makes way for hordes of seasonal updates and embellishments from the Gucci creative team.

Buy: Gucci

Editor’s Notes: A simple tennis kick, taken to a whole new level. The Gucci Ace first made streetwear headlines in Spring 2016 when the pre-fall collection saw the basic tennis shoe’s white leather outline arrive in a plethora of colorways, fabrics, trims and embellishments, patch packs and even the iconic Gucci bumblebee.

Gucci Flashtrek

Brand: Gucci

Model: Flashtrek

Key Features: The Gucci Flashtrek features a chunky aesthetic with mixed material construction consisting of technical canvas, leather, suede and rubber. A perforated padded ankle collar, rubber Gucci patch in "SEGA" font, hiking-inspired eyelets and rubber lug sole complete the outline.

Buy: Gucci

Editor’s Notes: The chunky, hiking-inspired silhouette launched with the FW18 range, taking cues from the previous chunky SEGA sneaker. Defined by its key features noted above, it launched in three colorways, consisting of blue/gum, green/black and in tonal brown with the classic "GG" monogram detailing, with even more introduced over the last few seasons.

Gucci Rhyton

Brand: Gucci

Model: Rhyton

Key Features: The Gucci Rhyton low-top sneaker is constructed using ecru leather and sits on a structured, oversized rubber midsole. An oversized print of Gucci’s multicolored logo and lettering feature on its side with a leather lining and lace closure rounding off the made-in-Italy kick. The logoless version is designed with a thick sole and bulky construction and is made using ivory leather which is treated for a vintage, distressed effect. Leather lining and lace closure ensure the Gucci Rhyton sneaker has a premium feel to it.

Buy: Gucci

Editor’s Notes: The Rhyton’s bulky, athletic silhouette could lead it to be the next sneaker that dominates fashion weeks. Pairing a thick sole with an athletic construction, Gucci’s Rhyton sneakers are retro-influenced thanks to either a distressed effect or Gucci’s vintage logo on its side.

Gucci Screener

Brand: Gucci

Model: Screener

Key Features: The Gucci Screener is optioned in three colorways, each of which features pre-scuffed design details.

Buy: Gucci

Editor’s Notes: Gucci made this selection of distressed sneakers available from its Cruise 2019 collection. A nod to the ’70s, the sportswear-inspired kicks are highlighted by their already-worn aesthetic.

Gucci Ultrapace R

Brand: Gucci

Model: Ultrapace R

Key Features: Gucci’s FW19 Ultrapace receives a running-themed makeover for FW20, giving the sneaker a much more performance-inspired look. A lightweight knitted fabric on the upper — a hallmark of OG sportswear brands’ performance sneakers — is combined with a wire dial closure, much like the BOA technology used on many hiking and trail sneakers. A transparent outsole completes the sporty look.

Buy: Gucci

Editor’s Notes:  The Gucci Ultrapace R is the storied fashion house’s attempt to bridge the gap between luxury and sportswear. It is described as a “running evolution of the Ultrapace,” and was introduced as part of the SS20 show in September. The multi-colored upper crafted from synthetic materials, paired with a dial closure on the tongue and a new midsole are all nods to features seen on actual sportswear models — albeit with Gucci’s signature high-end twist.

Gucci Rhyton Web Print

Brand: Gucci

Model: Rhyton Web Print

Key Features: The sneaker receives a sporty update, featuring a bold, abstract take with the house's logo on its side.

Buy: Gucci

Editor’s Notes: The Rhyton was Gucci’s entrant into the world of chunky sneakers and successfully challenged the likes of Balenciaga’s Triple S. Much like previous Rhyton sneakers, this update plays on the in-your-face trend that led to oversized logos becoming one of the biggest sneaker trends of 2017.

Gucci Rhyton "Gucci" Print Leather

Brand: Gucci

Model: Rhyton "Gucci" Print Leather

Key Features: This chunky black sneaker boasts a thick sole with gum accents, alongside a leather upper. Gucci’s logo is printed on the side, in SEGA’s graphic font.

Buy: Neiman Marcus

Editor’s Notes: Reimagining the Rhyton silhouette, Gucci’s homage to old school gaming console SEGA arrived in black leather with a contrast gum sole. The sneaker is completed with a contrast red and white Gucci logo written in the console’s graphic font.

Gucci New Ace

Brand: Gucci

Model: New Ace

Key Features: The sneakers feature a white, buffed leather upper with a round toe. Three velcro straps replace the customary lacing, while a padded tongue and collar provide extra comfort. Green and red heel tabs are joined by an oversized logo printed across the arch in gray, yellow, and red. A treaded rubber sole completes the look.

Buy: SSENSE

Editor’s Notes: This isn’t the first time Gucci has used large graphics on some of its most popular sneakers. In 2018, the bulky Rhyton was also clad in a number of oversized logos and designs.

Gucci Ace GG

Brand: Gucci

Model: Ace GG

Key Features: A leather upper, GG monogram print, leather heel tabs with logo, leather lining, and rubber sole.

Buy: Gucci

Editor’s Notes: Gucci draped this iteration of its iconic Ace sneaker with its GG monogram motif.

Gucci Ace Lamb Fur

Brand: Gucci

Model: Ace Lamb Fur

Key Features: The Gucci Ace silhouette is updated with a beige lamb fur lining at the ankle and tongue tab. After unveiling an all-over monogram version of the Ace in 2017, Gucci updated the Ace silhouette yet again — this time with luxurious lamb fur, designed to keep you cozy all winter long.

Buy: Poshmark

Editor’s Notes: With the popularity of Gucci’s fur-lined slippers, it makes sense that the brand expanded the same vision to its sought-after Ace sneakers. However, Gucci announced shortly after that it would be going fur-free from the Spring 2018 collection so this is one of the last times the brand used real fur.

Gucci Tian "Floral Print"

Brand: Gucci

Model: Tian "Floral Print"

Key Features: Each sneaker notes a canvas upper, with a white sole unit underneath. The low-top and high-top iterations welcome deep red laces, while the slip-ons feature the same hue on the lining and heel tab.

Buy: SSENSE

Editor’s Notes: The Tian print draws inspiration from Chinese landscapes depicted in 18th-century tapestries.Gucci went all-in with this print for Spring 2016, utilizing the floral motif on sneakers and much more.

Gucci Leather Ankle Boots

Brand: Gucci

Model: Leather Ankle Boots

Key Features: Gucci takes inspiration from the world of hiking for its version of premium leather boots. The boots feature metal eyelets and a chunky rubber sole, alongside logo details and a printed take on the Sylvie Web.

Gucci Horsebit Loafer

Buy: Gucci

Editor’s Notes: The shoes are made in Italy and the back is designed to be worn with the heel folded down or up.

Gucci Tennis 84

Brand: Gucci

Model: Tennis 84

Key Features: This Italian-made release features a premium leather and nylon upper. A pop of color is visible on the lower half of the kicks, which boast a green outer sole.

Editor’s Notes: The Gucci Tennis can be traced back to the early '80s, with inspiration from multiple silhouettes such as the adidas Rod Laver Super.

Gucci Jordaan Loafer

Brand: Gucci

Model: Jordaan Loafer

Key Features: Gucci's Jordaan loafer is designed with an elongated toe and finished by the house's signature Horsebit detail—an homage to Gucci's equestrian roots.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much are Gucci sneakers?

Most Gucci sneakers come in over the $500 mark. The ever-popular classic Ace leather sneaker retails for around $590 directly from Gucci while the flashiest version of the Flashtrek (complete with crystals) will cost over $1,500.

How do you clean Gucci Sneakers?

The best way to clean your Gucci sneakers is with a soft dry cloth or brush. You can find detailed instructions for each individual style from Gucci directly.

In order to care for your Gucci sneakers properly, protect them from direct light, heat and rain, and dry them immediately with a soft cloth should they become wet. Make sure to store your sneakers in the provided bag and box and consider filling each sneaker with tissue paper to help your Gucci sneakers keep their shape.

How do you lace Gucci sneakers?

If you’ve cleaned your Gucci sneakers and want to give them that box-fresh look, you’ll likely want to "straight lace" them. Starting from the bottom up and from the outside in, you pull one length of lace straight up diagonally – making sure to slip through the center loop while you do so. With your remaining length of lace, go over to the next eyelet straight, and to the next diagonally. Continue to do so until you reach the top – remembering to grab your center loop again as you pass it.
