It’s easy to rack up an eye-watering basket balance when shopping for watches. Swiss-made timepieces with perfect mechanical complications and encrusted bezels certainly don’t come cheap, but it’s a myth that all nice watches come with a heavy price tag. We could lay out a hundred-point list about why you don’t have to spend big on your watch to make it count, from buying pre-owned to finding bargain alternatives, but after a look at Timex’s latest offering, we thought we’d let the king of affordable timepieces do the talking instead.

Founded in 1854 as the Waterbury Clock Company, Timex revolutionized the world of personal timekeeping. While other watchmakers looked to craft something luxurious and expensive, Timex opted to make something for the people. By 1901, the company had perfected the pocket watch at just one dollar per piece, making it the general public’s go-to option. 50 years later and every third watch sold in the US was a Timex.

Today, some 150 years after its inception, Timex has retained its spot as one of the world’s favorite watchmakers. How? Its latest collection tells you everything you need to know. From archive diving designs to luxury-feel chronographs, there’s a Timex for every wrist and they look a damn sight more valuable than their price tags let on. They work better than their price tags let on, too, with Swiss movements now powering much of the brand's collection.

Below, we’ve rounded up eight of the Timex watches that caught our eye this season. Ranging in price from just $200 to $290, this is a masterclass in how to get full marks on your watch game without running yourself into financial ruin. We told you it was possible.
