Editor's Notes: It's not uncommon to get a sense of deja-vu when looking at the newest pieces released by BODE. The New York-based label has referenced everything from 1900s tobacco silk quilts to midcentury lace for its intricately-made garments, so it's likely you have seen some of the fabrics before.

A BODE collection often doubles up as a history lesson in 20th-century fabrics, and this one is no different.

Pre-Fall 22 is a hugely personal collection for the brand's founder, Emily Adams Bode-Aujla. The designer took inspiration from her recent wedding to her partner and collaborator Aaron Aujla, a celebration that brought together Punjabi traditions from his family with her Southern/East Coast background.

Presented through a lookbook with tuxedos, bowties, and white smoking shirts, the wedding brought a new sense of formality to the brand. However, there are some things that will never change: such as it breathing new life into old fabrics through its intricate craftsmanship.

The newest drop sees the designer continue to perfect the signature techniques that have not only built her a fanbase including everyone from Kendrick Lamar to Ryan Renolds but also win prizes such as the CFDA Menswear Designer Of The Year 2021; these include patchworking, quilting, embroidery, and crochet.

Those who also started dabbling in a bit of crochet fueled by boredom during the pandemic will have also gotten a new-found appreciation for the detailed technique that the designer uses. This season, the brand has taken inspiration from a crochet tablecloth from the 1950s/60s to create a patterned short sleeve shirt as well as making a small crochet bag, a reproduction of a 70s design that makes up for its impracticality with cuteness.

The 20th-century references, of course, don't end there, there are also: trousers inspired by a mid-1800s domestic quilt, a jacket that references the quilting on 1940s bedding, and a shirt made from silk lace panels used for curtains and aprons dating back to the 1970s.
