Browns Focus Makes Us Very Optimistic About the Future of Fashion
Browns is a boutique with a more iconic history than most. Founded in 1970, the South Molton Street store began outfitting London’s style set, offering labels that had previously been mostly unavailable. But while the sought-after labels made a name for Browns, it was the work that the boutique did for emerging designers that underpinned its enduring success.
In 1997, Browns launched Browns Focus to showcase a select handful of the most exciting newcomers to the space. For this year's Brown Focus collection, nine designers have created exclusive collections that encapsulate their universe, celebrating their clothes, community, and their creative vision. Saul Nash, Maximilian, Lueder, Labrum, TSAU, Mariah Esa, Conner Ives, Commission, and Bianca Saunders make up the Browns Focus class of '21.
While you won’t regret taking the time to scan each of the nine exclusive Focus collections, we’ve done the legwork for you and rounded up some of the highlight pieces from across Browns Focus Series One. It’s enough to make you feel very, very optimistic about the future of fashion.

Lueder Sash Panel Cotton T-Shirt
Lueder’s unorthodox patchwork style comes to the fore with the Sash Panel T-Shirt. This mashup of several tees is tied together by a flowing sash that crosses the front in a bold, sweeping movement.
Lueder Coil Leather Trousers
While the Sash T-shirt felt grungy, the Leather Coil Trousers exist in a much more refined dimension without losing the brand's gritty undercurrent. Cut from supple lambskin, the slightly flared silhouette is characterized by clean slits coiling around the knees.
Labrum Prince Trousers
Foday Dumbuya is led by the ethos that life is made to explore. That’s maybe why his collections that look to link Western-style with that of West Africa are typified by unique detailing. Take the Prince Trousers, for example, which are made all the more intriguing by a subtle, tonal wave pattern throughout.
Labrum Siaka Stevens Jacquard Shirt
Talk about unique detailing. The tonal wave pattern continues in the Siaka Stevens Jacquard Shirt but this time it’s interrupted by metal loops that connect the arms to the torso.
Bianca Saunders Barlon Leather Jacket
Chosen badly, leather jackets can be the downfall of an outfit. If chosen correctly (i.e. made by Bianca Saunders) they can make a whole wardrobe. This boxy leather jacket features an oversized collar, two large pockets to the chest, and cuff ties to give the piece an unusual silhouette.
Bianca Saunders Cargo Trousers
It’s no surprise that Bianca Saunders was selected by the British Style Council as one to watch. These wide-leg, white cargo trousers are at once on-trend and completely unique; that’s no easy feat.
Saul Nash Hybrid Vent Track Pants
Hailing from the UK, Saul Nash is a designer and choreographer, making his collections a dreamy blend between activewear and cutting-edge style. These Hybrid Vent Track Pants epitomize that dichotomy with zip vents and adjustable cuffs for a customizable silhouette and utilitarian style.
Saul Nash Bound Utility Gilet Jacket
The line between sportswear and luxury fashion has never been so blurred, and Saul Nash puts forward a pretty strong argument for a complete dissolution of the line altogether. This lightweight mesh gilet is a summer essential.
Saul Nash Flipside Hooded Jacket
Sage nylon gives this track jacket personality that’s sure to shine in the sunlight. It’s basically the ideal summer outerwear solution with a range of toggles and zips as well as a breathable mesh lining.
TSAU Mami Wata Printed Shirt
TSAU — standing for The Space Around Us — looks to an African water spirit for detail on the Mami Wata shirt. Made from a cotton-hemp blend, this piece typifies the label's specialist relationship with fabrics.
