Editor’s Notes: Milan-based Casbia and Champion continue their ongoing partnership into SS19 with a release that celebrates the latter’s 100th anniversary.
Together, Casbia and Champion have designed an all-new silhouette, the Century, which takes design cues from both the ’70s and the ’90s, mixing styling and performance tech from both eras. Visually, the shoes are inspired by on-court high tops, more specifically those used during Dr. J’s reign in the ’70s and Michael Jordan’s time playing professional basketball in the ’90s.
Both eras have very distinct design languages and represented a time when performance shoes made their way off the hardwood courts. The unstructured upper is evocative basketball shoes in the ’70s, while the maximilist sole unit is more indicative of ’90s basketball shoes.
The Casbia x Champion Century will arrive in OG Crust, Tarmac, Concrete, and China Red colorways and will retail for $179 (€149 in Europe).
