Champion's "No Permission" Exhibit Celebrates Streetwear's Legacy
On May 7th, the Brooklyn Museum was abuzz with activity for Champion's one-night-only exhibit of its "No Permissions" collection. The museum and the brand, both iconic institutions in their own right, welcomed guests from all over the city to showcase the history of Champion and its deep roots cultivating streetwear into the cultural force it is today.
Some of the highlights of the exhibit included rare early designs of Supreme, Kith, BAPE, and Pyrex which were all created on Champion blanks and successfully highlighted how foundational Champion is to the legacy of so many streetwear brands and to the fashion scene as a whole.
But the event wasn't just a look at the past, it was also a showcase of a new wave of designers and creators who debuted their own one-of-a-kind designs for display. This included works from Qaysean Williams, Kate Weinberg,Justin Mensinger, Cheatin Snakes , Anna Molinari, all of whom brought their unique vision to their work with Champion.
The Brooklyn Museum exhibit is part of the "Champion What Moves You" campaign, which is the brand's global effort to celebrate creativity and boundary-pushing work that kicked off in 2023. This year Champion is focusing on supporting designers and is continuing its Creator's program for a second season. The program provides support to emerging creators and designers and will be accepting applications later in the year.
