Jerry Lorenzo's latest drop for Fear of God, simply titled 'Fifth Collection' features oversized denim, flannel pants, drawstring trackpants, hooded sweatshirts, and a vintage baseball vibe rooted in ’90s sportswear and fitted caps.

The 96 (!)-item-strong collection is the biggest from Fear of God to date and in keeping with previous collections it includes some niche references to the ephemera of past eras. 'Fifth Collection' takes a look at the cuts from 1989 Jean Claude Van Damme blockbuster Kickboxer, some bootleg basketball merch found in Italy and for footwear, Lorenzo took inspiration from the 1987 LA Gear Street Slammer sneaker.

In our chat with Lorenzo, the Fear of God designer explains how this collection drew from the aesthetics of his own experiences growing up in the ’80s and ’90s. Speaking of the challenges to find a denim that synced with his vision, "I really hate most luxury denim," Lorenzo also mentions the allusion to ’90s hip-hop with "lots of 2Pac references; I wanted to take a Rocawear feel and modernize it."

Framed in a 'Grunge and Glory' editorial (inspired by a ’90s Steven Meisel shoot) it was a strong continuation of the luxury decadence, elongated shapes and surprising touches (i.e. a denim collar on a flannel shirt) which fans have come to expect from the LA label. The threads have been picked up by the likes of Offset and Kendrick Lamar, who has just enlisted Lorenzo to kit him out for his worldwide 'DAMN.' tour, including a customized 'LAMAR'-branded jacket too.

Envious? Sure. Now four years old, the label has become a go-to for high-profile celebrities such as Kanye West, Rihanna and Justin Bieber. The hype, and the fact that it crosses across different genres of menswear, has led to Fear of God becoming a highly sought-after label with streetwear and fashion enthusiasts alike.

As Fear of God could be named for the feeling it puts in you when looking at the prices, here are some more wallet-friendly alternatives. Oh, and by the way, Fear of God has its own affordable diffusion line produced with PacSun called FOG, which pitches Lorenzo's staple pieces at a more accessible price point. Check out the brand's FW16 collection while you're at it.
