Clare Waight Keller Exits Givenchy as Artistic Director
Givenchy artistic director Clare Waight Keller is leaving the label after three years in the role. Keller made the announcement in an Instagram post on Friday.
As the first woman to be the Artistic Director of the LVMH-owned label, Keller catapulted Givenchy’s international prominence, Notably, she dressed Meghan Markle for her royal wedding in 2018 and recruited Ariana Grande to be the face of the label last year. Under her the business grew to around €400 million (approximately $439 million).
Initially considered to be a very commercial designer, Keller surprised the fashion community with strong haute couture collections. She departs the French brand at the end of her initial contract.
"After three truly wonderful years, the time has come to close my chapter at Givenchy," she wrote on Instagram. "I feel honoured to have been given the opportunity to cherish its legacy and bring it new life [...] I am now looking forward to embarking on the next episode."
It's currently unclear who will replace Clare Waight Keller as artistic director at Givenchy. However, according to Business of Fashion, LVMH might be considering 1017 ALYX 9SM founder Matthew Williams, Virgil Abloh and Kanye West.
