We Won! Converse's Most Emo Shoe Is Back
Big news for former emo kids: Converse its relaunching its knee-high sneakers, a wardrobe staple for those who grew up attending Warped Tour (IYKYK).
The comeback of the Converse Knee High was a long time coming. For months, the shoe has been a hot topic on TikTok as elder Millennials reminisce on the nostalgic style, which Converse discontinued sometime in the 2010s. Some packrats have even dug their old Knee Highs out of storage to prove that they can, in fact, look fresh in the year 2024.
The proliferation of Knee High content on social media has made its way to the resale market. On sites like eBay and Depop, the shoes are being peddled for as much as $350.
Converse is well aware of the hype surrounding the Knee High. Back in 2023, the brand's official TikTok posted a video highlighting the deluge of comments begging for the shoe's comeback.
The brand's watchful eye will likely pay off. Reaction to Converse's post officially announcing the Knee High's relaunch is entirely positive: "My inner teenager is screaming," one top comment reads. "WHO RUNS THE WORLD?!? EMO AND SCENE KIDS!!!" another declares.
The news comes as other trappings of Millennial and Gen Z childhood make a resurgence. Consider, for example, that mall brands like Claire's and Limited Too are cool again.
The Converse XXHi Knee High drops online on June 28 at 10 a.m. ET. Those determined to get their hands on the shoe can sign up for reminders at the brand's website.
In the meantime, looks like the Change.org petitions lobbying for Converse to bring back the Knee High can be put to rest. We won!
