Crocs' First-Ever Sneaker Is Already Outdoing Itself
Crocs’ Juniper sneaker may have only released last week, but it’s already outdoing itself with a new and objectively great-looking colorway in the pipeline.
The wavy Juniper sneaker, first teased nearly six months ago, is the brand's first foray into the world of laced footwear, one spearheaded by former Versace Footwear VP and now Crocs' creative director, Salehe Bembury.
Now, less than a week after the official drop of the highly anticipated Juniper, the Crocs sneaker returns in an even more beautiful camouflage colorway.
Personally, the beauty of the Juniper sneaker is in how hard it is to accurately describe. Essentially, it’s a mix between a traditional shoe and one of Bembury’s Pollex Clogs, the designer’s first Crocs release.
On one hand you have a classic sneaker construction equipped with laces and a tongue, of course. But on the other hand you have seemingly random injections of Croslite foam around the upper, which sits atop a psychedelic and anything-but-traditional midsole.
Basically, the Juniper is just as zany as you’d expect a Bembury Crocs sneaker to be.
Although there’s no official information as to when Bembury’s new Juniper will release, if his previous Instagram movements are anything to go by, which means whenever he posts a reveal to his grid, a release tends to follow soon after.
The 38-year-old designer has single-handedly garnered Crocs an entirely new following since his first collaborative shoe with the Boulder-based label back in 2021.
But three years, a tonne of Pollex Clogs, and a creative director role later, Bembury’s Crocs era is well and truly underway.
And now, thanks to the multi-faceted Juniper, Crocs can now also consider itself a bonafide sneaker brand. Who’d have thought?!
Well, to be fair, Crocs has made sneakers before, but they weren't purposely fashionable.
These previously released laced-up Crocs shoes were utilitarian shoes meant to be worn by workers who need all-day comfort while on their feet.
Crocs' new Juniper shoe, however, is all fashion. It's out-there to be sure, but this is a strong step forward for the clog brand's stylistic side.
Even though it may take some time to get used to seeing Crocs with laces.
