We made a quick stop in Spain this week to see the latest drop from one of the hottest and most unconventional car brands out there—CUPRA. The Spanish car maker has been making waves in the European automotive market since it kicked off production in 2018, and its newest models, an update to the popular CUPRA Formentor and the all new CUPRA Leon, are adding another notch on the brand’s belt. We got an up close look while the world premiere of the new models being showcased inside Madrid's Plaza de Cibeles.

At the event, CUPRA announced their new standalone design division—CUPRA Design. This division is dedicated to managing the brand's merchandise while also collaborating with other companies that share CUPRA's design philosophy. By working with partners who resonate with the brand's bold, unconventional approach, CUPRA Design aims to infuse its distinctive style into various products and projects beyond the automotive realm. Through CUPRA Design, the brand seeks to push creative boundaries and expand its influence in the world of design.

Also premiered was the CUPRA Catwalk, which showcased "CUPRA Design Obsession" and offered a distinctive visual experience. The venue featured suspended catwalks formed by large screens, where virtual models representing the brand's 9 core principles paraded. Each avatar embodied a unique value defining CUPRA's design ethos.

This obsession with design is apparent in the CUPRA Formentor, which has been a bestseller for the brand, and is returning with a fresh perspective on design and performance. The crossover SUV embraces an aggressive and modern aesthetic, with a distinctive CUPRA logo prominently displayed on the front bonnet. The car's shark-nosed face, with its triangular matrix LED lights, provides a bold and assertive presence on the road.

Inside, the new Formentor's design reflects a harmonious blend of sportiness and sustainability, offering luxurious bucket seats wrapped in recycled microfibre or environmentally conscious leather. Digitalization is front and center with a new 12.9-inch infotainment system that enhances the driving experience.

The Formentor's powertrain options include the exclusive TSI engine delivering 333PS (245kW) with torque splitter technology and Akebono brakes. This engine option sets a new standard for performance, while the eHybrid technology allows for over 100 km of all-electric range, promoting sustainability and efficiency.

The crown jewel, so to speak, courtesy of MAM, Barcelona-based the eco-conscious jewelry label. MAM has partnered with CUPRA to craft a collection comprising a ring and both standard and limited-edition bracelets emblazoned with the phrase "Welcome to the Tribe." Crafted from ruthenium and copper, materials emblematic of CUPRA's automotive aesthetics, the line encapsulates a spirit of genuine rawness and authenticity.

Now enter the new CUPRA Leon. The CUPRA Leon continues to build on its reputation as a car that combines sportiness and versatility. Available in both 5-door hatchback and Sportstourer variants, the Leon embraces CUPRA's design obsession, offering a refined yet dynamic exterior. The car's rear features a central CUPRA logo illuminated by triangular lighting, contributing to its unique aesthetic.

Inside, the Leon's interior mirrors the Formentor's focus on sustainability, featuring a central console with new materials and finishes that elevate the overall driving experience. The driver benefits from an improved HMI digital cockpit and a larger infotainment system, providing an intuitive and connected experience.

Both the new CUPRA Formentor and CUPRA Leon exemplify CUPRA's commitment to design excellence, setting new benchmarks in automotive aesthetics. Both respective models have been designed to resonate with the brand's vision of sustainability and luxury, creating spaces that are both elegant and ergonomic. From the new central console to the improved digital interfaces, every detail reflects CUPRA's design obsession and attention to craftsmanship.
