Diesel's New Drop is One Wild Winter Wardrobe
The Glenn Martens hype train is showing no signs of slowing down any time soon — in fact, it's only gaining momentum as the Belgian designer continues to make headlines.
Currently at the helm of Diesel, Martens has made the brand the talk of Milan, managed to create fans out of everyone from Nicole Kidman to Rihanna, made a genuine top-tier sneaker contender, and now that the FW22 collection is available in shops, I'm only here to sing his praises further.
Marking Diesel's return to the catwalk after years of not being on the official schedule, when we first saw the collection in Milan we knew it was something special.
The collection fed our never-ending appetite for all things Y2K through its low-waisted jeans and the now-viral skirt belt while creating fur coats from denim using intricate artisanship and manipulating leather through artful distressing. Getting a closer look at the pieces now that they can be shopped has only confirmed our initial excitement.
The tiny half-skirt, half-belt legwear was always going to get the internet talking, but it's just one piece out of a whole collection of wild designs.
One item that slipped under our radar in the initial runway show is the Ralle puffer jacket, having been hidden under another piece of outerwear. Just as we enter puffer season, Martens has upped the ante for any other brands looking to make an eye-catching winter jacket.
The huge piece of outerwear uses a smocking technique to gather the fabric in a grid pattern and create its voluminous finish which is made more extravagant through overprinted yellow and green coloring.
The experimental puffer is only the beginning of Marten's outerwear antics. If you're in the market for a long jacket, the designer didn't stop with creating the world's most oversized trench coat with his own label Y/Project, but also has a cracked leather overcoat on offer through Diesel.
And for a leather design that is a little bit less Matrix-y, there is a biker jacket with matching pants, as well as a denim take on a biker jacket that also comes as a two-piece.
Basically, the collection has everything you could ever need to make a statement this winter — and that's before we even mention the glossy denim fabrics and futuristic knitwear.
