Double Tap to Zoom

Doublet doubled down on its playful, tongue-in-cheek style for its recent FW23 Paris show. Bunny-rabbit costumes provided comic relief to what was clearly Masayuki Ino's most accomplished collection to date. As always, the Doublet accessories dominated our hearts and minds for the rest of fashion month.

Today, fashion designers are obsessed with over-the-top bags. In the past two seasons alone, we’ve witnessed eye-catching pieces like the Pigeon Clutch from JW Anderson, the Lay’s Potato Chip bag from Balenciaga, or an ultimate shocker, the four-figure Fortune Cookie bag by Louis Vuitton. So, the Doublet Bucket Bag is just another fun addition to level up your accessory game.

Japanese brands like COMME des GARÇONS, Kenzo, and BAPE have historically brought something exciting and original to the Western fashion scene and Doublet stands out as one of the latest success stories in this realm.

Even though founder and Creative Director Masayuki Ino is not among the big players, he is undoubtedly redefining the modern street-style field by mixing his punky aesthetic with tongue-in-cheek cultural references. Accessories epitomize Doublet’s bizarre style; just take the wig beanies or finger keychains.

It is true that not everyone masters the art of accessorizing. Experimenting with wild looks can get tricky, but sometimes it just takes a striking bag for you to take the plunge. Doublet crafts this unconventional yet practical piece in two different versions, one with a short handle while the other has a long strap and an additional inner drawstring bag.

It seems that every season the runways keep getting weirder and weirder. Not only are designers altering garments' silhouettes, but they are also encapsulating that surreal aesthetic with accessories. Why? Well, fashion has always been an embodiment of its context, and in a world that feels less and less logical, these surreal garments slot in naturally. Alternatively, we're over-intellectualizing it and it could just be because they're fun. Either way, designers are surely aiming for us to add some surrealism to our daily style. And so, with their comical taste in an overly serious field, Doublet is the ideal option to do so.
