Eddie Murphy Brought Out Classic Characters & Comedy All-Stars in Epic ’SNL’ Return
Last night, comedy legend Eddie Murphy returned to host Saturday Night Live for the first time in 35 years. For the holiday episode Murphy brought back some of his most iconic comedy characters and was joined by comedy all-stars on stage.
For his opening monologue, Murphy was joined by fellow SNL alumni Chris Rock, Tracy Morgan, Dave Chappelle, and Kenan Thompson — “You’re looking at half of Netflix’s Budget right here on stage,” Chappelle joked of the lineup of comedy elites.
In his intro, Murphy spoke about his much-anticipated return, joking "This is the last episode of 2019, but if you’re black, this is the first episode since I left back in 1984." Check out a snippet of his monologue below.
For his longtime fans, the show's true highlight was the return of Murphy's old SNL characters like Buckwheat, Mister Robinson and Gumby. The comedian brought back his beloved characters in a series of hilarious sketches.
Known as one of SNL's biggest breakout stars, Murphy first appeared on the sketch comedy show back in 1980 when he was just 19 years old. And according to Twitter reactions, Eddie Murphy's 2019 return is already one for the books.
