Farah’s New Collection Blends British Heritage With Sun-Soaked Ibizan Vibes
Today, the legend of Ibiza lives on and party-goers continue to flock to its sun-drenched shores every summer to escape the pull of reality. But the island’s heydey – responsible for its now legendary status – was back in the early ‘80s when idealists and counter-culturalists sought solace in Ibiza's free-spirited culture and euphoric sound. With a heritage deeply informed by the music community, British menswear brand Farah has drawn inspiration from the spirit and the aesthetic of the “White Isle” for its high summer collection.
A sartorial take on the melodic sound of Ibiza, the drop draws cues from the island's inclusive spirit as a whole and to its legendary beat in particular. Pioneered by DJ Alfredo, the Balearic rhythm reflects the island's "anything goes" mentality, fusing elements from various genres of music – from reggae to rock – with melodic synthesized beats. This liberal state of mind is shared by Farah, whose skillfully tailored, durable, and inexpensive styles have served as a common thread for a diversity subcultures since the ‘70s.
The collection delivers a range of timeless silhouettes that channel a British feel including polo shirts, shorts, tees, sweaters, pants, and swimwear. Informed by the Balearic coastline, the color palette offers up sun-bleached pinks, greens, and blues, which are punctuated by neon accents that recall the bright lights of Ibiza’s famed superclubs. Known for its liberal use of prints, Farah highlights key pieces in the collection with a pattern resembling Terrazzo stone, a material used frequently in Balearic architecture.
