FIFA Strike Gold with Tiffany & Co.
Yep, we were also surprised to see FIFA and Tiffany & Co. in the same sentence. But, upon closer inspection, there is method to this collaboration madness.
We all know there’s glamor in football—especially for the winners. And for those who stand lofty upon the top sporting podiums of the world, something very sparkly is required to hold. For what is a grand competition without a grand prize?
The FIFA Club World Cup trophy was designed by FIFA and crafted in collaboration with Tiffany & Co. But you can’t behold it just yet—after 10 painstaking months of construction, the finished product will only be available to see in all its glory in December, and only held aloft for the first time by the champions of the competition at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey on Sunday, 13 July 2025.
In the meantime, here are some stats to chew over. The trophy consists of a central disc and three outer rings. It’s made of gold vermeil, and on both sides are engraved text and imagery that portray football’s rich history, including the full and original Laws of the Game from 1863. In order to engrave those scenes, Tiffany specially designed a new five-axis laser.
Safe to say, there are enough bells and whistles here.
The trophy’s inspirations were also varied: the famous Voyager Golden Records carried on NASA’s Voyager deep-space missions in the 1970s, the periodic table, maps of pioneering journeys, and astronomy all contributed to the trophy’s aesthetic and detailing.
Just like the FIFA Club World Cup itself, this trophy is a symbol of the future, inspired by the past. According to the FIFA President, Gianni Infantino, it had to be “innovative, inclusive, ground-breaking and truly global.” No small task, but one that Tiffany was willing to take on.
Perhaps the most important of all details on the trophy is the phrase, “Football unites the world", etched into the trophy in 13 languages and Braille. This is an apt summary of the values is seeks to propagate. More than just uniting the unlikely duo of FIFA and Tiffany, this trophy will stand as a powerful symbol of unity in the footballing community for years to come. Well played.
