After releasing a demo for the Final Fantasy VII Remake earlier this year, Square Enix has announced that its 2013 online multiplayer Final Fantasy XIV Online Starter Edition is available to download for free, until May 26.

Last week, the video game developer revealed that the Starter Edition is now free to download on the Playstation Store. Rather than the standard $19.99 upfront cost, SE is making it available as part of a free 30-day registration offer.

However, after 30 days elapses, a paid subscription is required. Those who wish to continue playing can then sign up for a $12.99 30-day subscription. The promotion runs from now until May 26, 2020, 9.00 AM PDT.

For the more cautious gamer, the PS Store also offers a free demo version so you can play it first before committing to the 40 GB of hard drive space required for install.

Meanwhile, Sony's next-generation gaming hardware appears to be on track to drop this year. Despite accidental leaks and coronavirus related disruptions to the supply chain, the tech company has been dishing out details about the PlayStation 5. Here's everything we know so far.
