Fossil Presents: Monique Billings Is Made For This
If life’s a game, then WNBA powerhouse Monique Billings is the star player. Standing at six feet and three inches tall, Billings has always been a larger than life presence–and that philosophy extends far beyond the dribble of a basketball or the swish of a three-pointer.
The 27-year-old athletic arbiter took refuge in the splendor of sports, honing her craft through basketball in high school. In the years that followed Billings remained at the top of her game solidifying her place in the 30 highest ranking female basketball players by recruiting services–which in combination with a triumphant tenure at UCLA landed Billings on the radar of her WNBA team, the Atlanta Dream.
While these formative years color the essence of Billings' identity, there are more layers that have yet to be exposed. After a period of introspection, the epiphany that she is more than a number on a jersey was unlocked. Those years of unwavering dedication to her craft were in preparation for a larger purpose, one that speaks to the multifaceted nature of her being.
“I was Made For This—to find balance, push boundaries and live fully in every sense.” Billings exclaims.
Adding style aficionado, author, travel enthusiast, and content creator to her already accomplished resume, Billings is using her platform to create “impactful content” that feeds the soul of her community.
“People will often try to limit you, define you as one thing and put you in a box. But it’s up to you to create your own narrative.” Billings shares. And when asked what has resonated most with her throughout her quest of self-discovery, the multi-hyphenate drops a gem stating “One of the main takeaways from Basketball that I carry into my creative pursuits and life in general, is to enjoy the process while you climb up the mountain. Not just the view when you make it to the top, because it really is a [journey].”
