Brand: Nike SB

Model: Dunk Low

Key Features: The sneakers feature a base made of brightly-colored suede and furry fleece, with equally bright and contrasting detailing on the Swoosh and outsole. The Swoosh features a jagged rim, replicating the Bears' cravats and ragged fur. In keeping with the 420-friendly Dead Head philosophy, Nike SB has included a stash pocket behind the tongue.

Release Date: The orange colorway originally released July 18, while the green and yellow iterations dropped on July 24.

Price: $110

Buy: The orange scheme first arrived exclusively at FTC San Francisco, with the yellow colorway releasing through SNKRS and select skate shops, and the green pair at select skate shops.

Editor’s Notes: Following an initial release for the long-rumored Grateful Dead-inspired Nike SB Dunk Low pack, official images of the orange colorway have surfaced online. The arrival of the photos suggests a wider drop may be in store, with many believing the orange iteration will soon be available on Nike SNKRS.

All three colorways of the Grateful Dead x Nike SB Dunk Low feature the same furry makeup, taking inspiration from the psych-rock band’s 1973 album cover History of the Grateful Dead, Volume One (Bear's Choice), and the stylized dancing bears that graced it.

"As the band’s benefactor, Bear was an incredibly huge part of the Grateful Dead’s ability to become who they were,” said David Lemieux, the band’s archivist and legacy manager. “They were talented musicians, but they would not have had the financial freedom to forgo jobs, move to Los Angeles and practice for 14 hours a day. The band wouldn’t become what it is today without Bear’s innovations and contributions. The same fiercely independent spirit from Bodecker helped create that authenticity within the skate community.”
