After teasing a new full-length last year, Grimes has announced her new album. Taking to Instagram, she revealed the new project is titled Miss_Anthrop0cene, a portmanteau of the words "misanthrope" and "anthropocene," describing it as “a concept album about the anthropomorphic goddess of climate Change.” A release date for the project has not yet been revealed.

She writes that her previous single "We Appreciate Power" with HANA is the first song off Miss_Anthrop0cene, explaining that it “introduced the pro-AI-propaganda girl group who embody our potential enslavement/destruction at the hands of Artificial General intelligence.” As for the rest of the record, “Each song will be a different embodiment of human extinction as depicted through a Pop star Demonology,” she explains.

Last week, Grimes released a demo called "Pretty Dark." The Canadian musician adds that she might release “an EP or a few more singles of synth-based stuff” before the arrival of Miss_Anthrop0cene.

Grimes' last studio album was Art Angels from 2015. Last year, she joined forces with Poppy on "Play Destroy" and created the theme song for Netflix's Hilda.
