This Thicc Boy Will Add Serious Clout To Your Wardrobe
Lately, all we’ve been talking about is sandals and lightweight sneakers. With temperatures rising to forty degrees, go-to silhouettes like these are a must. However, chunky sneakers seem to be claiming their spot in our summer rotation, too. Think: the ongoing hype of the adidas Campus ‘00s. This time, Gucci reimagines its iconic Screener Sneakers, dropping an inflated take on the classic.
Originally, the Gucci Screener Sneakers landed in the brand's Cruise 2019 collection, but, with much more toned-down proportions. The original silhouette took inspiration from the ‘70s basketball court sneakers - making these another retro shoot-and-score from Gucci.
The Italian luxury brand is no stranger to crafting old-school. Alessandro Michele's creative direction at the leather goods house cemented a unique ‘70s retro aesthetic that prevails to this day. Beyond the brand’s showing of vintage-inspired RTW pieces in the past couple of years, Gucci now owns the retro sneakers movement, too. Take a peek at our Gucci sneakers if you’re not convinced.
In keeping with the unique retro style, this new take on the Gucci Screener Sneaker stands out because of its chunkiness. With leather and mesh detailing, this piece features some padded panels and a fuzzy outer shell, for added coziness. Its thick white sole enveloped by a brown, textured outsole gives extra height. Thick shoelaces are the cherry on top of this epic inflated effect. These new kicks come in two colorways: monogrammed brown and beige-toned.
Not only is the imminent rise of Y2K taking over our closet but our shoe rotation, too. Gucci’s seeming takeover of the movement is spearheaded by this modern silhouette. If you are looking to add bold moves to your summer fit, this is the piece for you.
