You've Never Seen a Gucci Shoot Like This Before
Gucci, Roundtable, and creative agency A Vibe Called Tech have unveiled a photo and essay series titled, To me, you are Beloved. The stunning collaborative project was conceived as a means of capturing “the multitude and essence of Black British identity, inheritance, and family history.”
For the project, four sets of Black British visionaries were invited to recreate a moment in time. Wase Aguele, the founder and editor-in-chief of Roundtable, a storytelling platform focused on championing the nuances of experience across the Black community explains: “To me, you are Beloved is a love letter to being Black and British. By having the talent recreate old family photos, we wanted to create space to talk about Black identity and history in a fun way.”
Among those photographed were musical mother and daughter duo Damsel Elysium and Lisa Elde aka Djenaba, singer-songwriter and performer K Soul and her family, British-Congolese siblings and musicians, Brian Nasty and Joviale, and internet personality Miss Jason.
Shot by Delali Ayivi, each family sports handbags from Gucci's Beloved line including the Dyonisus, the GG Marmont, the Gucci Horsebit 1955, and the Jackie 1961. The photographs are accompanied by four essays penned by four Black women writers: Siham Ali, Wase Aguele, Ayoade Bamgboye, and Nicolle Nyariri who use storytelling to enrich the photographic series and give depth to the stunning images.
Charlene Prempeh, founder of a Vibe Called Tech, notes: “What I found amazing about working on this project is the message that we can be unapologetically sentimental about the people and things that we love and that the expression of those feelings is a beautiful thing. There is a lot of emphasis placed on the struggles faced by Black families in the UK but there’s also an abundance of joy and love that deserves attention and it was brilliant to work with Gucci and Roundtable to shine a light on those stories.”
