Late last year we found out that Janelle Monáe would be starring in Focus Features' new Harriet Tubman biopic, Harriet. As the much-anticipated film is due out in November, today the first official trailer has made its way online.

British actress Cynthia Erivo has been cast to play the titular role in Harriet, as the initial trailer highlights Erivo's Harriet Tubman escaping slavery and making her way to freedom. Thankfully she didn't stop there, as Tubman fearlessly decided others deserved to be freed as well.

Harriet follows Tubman on her journey to bring slaves to freedom via the Underground Railroad. We of course know that she went on to become one of America’s greatest heroes of all time.

Joining Erivo and Monáe in Harriet are Leslie Odom Jr. and Clarke Peters. The movie, which comes to theaters November 1, is adapted from a screenplay co-written by director Kasi Lemmons with Gregory Allen Howard.
