In today’s most surprising headline Hasbro, the world famous toy company, is now the official owner of Death Row Records. Hasbro chairman and chief executive officer, Brian Goldner, announced the acquisition of Entertainment One on December 30 in a cash deal worth approximately $3.8 billion. Entertainment One owns Death Row Records.

“We are excited about what we can do together and see tremendous opportunity for shareholder value creation through this acquisition,” said Goldner via a press release. “Our businesses are highly complementary with substantial synergies and a great cultural fit.”

Death Row Records was founded by Suge Knight and Dr. Dre and was one of the most powerful West Coast record labels of the ’90s. It helped launch the careers of artists such as Snoop Dogg, and Nate Dogg and featured Tupac Shakur, who was signed to the label for the last year of his life.

In October Suge Knight, who is currently in jail on murder and attempted murder charges, announced that Ray J would be handling the music side of the record label. It’s currently unclear how Hasbro’s ownership of Death Row Records will affect the day-to-day runnings of the label.
