Highsnobiety
Double Tap to Zoom

Dearest readers,

I find myself writing this on the way home from Paris — I really should be sleeping; I’m going straight to the office – but as my managing editor Jake Indiana reminds me often: deadlines are deadlines. And this is due... tomorrow.

In truth, writing in transit, speeding 550-something mph through the skies, and flying backward through time zones feels fitting. Here I am, editing an issue that will be in your arms in about three months, when we’re thinking about sweaters and overcoats and tweeting about fall. But that’s fashion. It’s got an eye to the future, to the next season and trend, which means imbuing tomorrow with a little of what’s happening today, and of course, yesterday.

It’s all a beautiful reminder that fashion is an art form — it is a means of communication. It looks forward, and pushes us to think in new ways. What we wear — and how we wear it — is storytelling. (I must now reveal my airplane uniform: an adidas tracksuit and my partner’s Paul Frank hoodie.)

This is why when we started brainstorming cover ideas for Highsnobiety’s September Issue, we gathered as a global team and unanimously decided it would be impossible to platform one singular voice in fashion. After all, we are a community driven by new agents, creativity, and what’s next. Instead, we chose three.

I’m thrilled to finally get to introduce to you our cover stars:

Lil Yachty, shot by Jason Nocito.

Khaby Lame, in conversation with one of my favorite creators in fashion, Wesley Breed.

And Grace Valentine, the stylish runway model who went viral in the middle of Kim Jones’ Fendi presentation.

Inside the issue, you’ll meet new friends of Highsnobiety: Vookum, who leads a watch-selling vanguard in the Diamond District, Mark Ruffalo, Pierce Abernathy, Jordan Daniels, Tyrell Hampton; Donatella Versace, Peter Do, and more. You’ll also find a map of the best places to people-watch in New York City from the perspective of our stylish friends: d4vd, Rian Phin, Ava Hariri-Kia, Masami Hosono, and Montell Fish, among others.

So, in honor of the September issue institution, NYFW, and Neu York (our new pop-up in our second-home, NYC), I welcome you to Issue #32.

I can’t wait to hear what you think.

Love,

Willa Bennett
