Every Celeb Has Jacob & Co. Jewels, But We Have Its First Fashion Collection
If you are scratching your head as to why the name Jacob & Co. rings a bell, the nickname "Jacob The Jeweller" will clear things up. The name was given to its founder Jacob Arabo by the late Notorious B.I.G. and it has stuck as he continues to outfit stars in custom jewelry.
Having become the thing of legend since first establishing his business in 1986, the jeweler has a client list much of which reads like a who's who of hip-hop royalty including the likes of Sean “Love” Combs and Jay Z. He even told us in a recent interview that a young Ye, then known as Kanye West, would wait hours to be seen for a custom piece.
Paying special attention to the New York heritage of the brand, Highsnobiety has paired up with Jacob & Co. to launch its first-ever lifestyle and ready-to-wear collection. Diving into its star-studded customer list and trademark styles, the collaboration includes everything from coasters to varsity jackets.
One of the label's most iconic designs is its quartz-powered Five Time Zone watch collection which was released in 2005 and has since found itself on the wrists of A$AP Rocky, Drake, and Ronaldinho. Establishing the brand as a luxury watchmaker as well as a creator of opulent jewelry, the watch features the time zones of New York, L.A., Tokyo, and Paris, with each time zone having a dedicated dial decorated by a different color and shape.
That playful design is re-interpreted throughout our collection, being printed on an ashtray, creating the charms of a bracelet, and embroidered onto the sleeves of hoodies. Ian Isiah even wears the rare timepiece for our lookbook, as presented at the top of this article.
But there is more to Jacob's history that we had to tap into, namely his relationship with Pharrell. The jeweler is quoted as calling Pharell his favorite customer and there have been many countless iconic moments created by the two, but we have focused on Pharell's 2006 yellow gold Diamond Dice. Printed onto the front of a t-shirt, the back shows the credentials of the dice including their carat weight and model number.
Arabo first met the musician aged 18 and was responsible for introducing him to Nigo, the founder of BAPE who was recently appointed Creative Director at Kenzo. The meeting would prove to be historic, with the two becoming business partners and launching the legendary streetwear labels Billionaire Boys Club and Ice Cream.
Those who have been fans of Nigo from the early days will know of his love for eccentric jewelry, most notably his large 18k white gold dollar sign pendant from Jacob. Celebrating the legendary meeting between him and Pharell, the pendant is printed on a t-shirt in the same style as the Diamond Dice, with facts about the piece printed to the back.
As part of the drop, we're hosting an exclusive dinner at the Wythe Hotel in Williamsburg, keep an eye out on our socials for some behind-the-scenes shots of the event.
Check out the full collection in the lookbook above, which will be available to shop from the Highsnobiety shop from March 16.
