Converse’s One Star Gets an Auto-Inspired Overhaul
Brand: IBN Jasper x Converse
Release Date: May 20
Buy: Highsnobiety Shop
Editor’s Notes: Chi-Town legend IBN Jasper has teamed up with Converse once again for this forthcoming One Star Ox Collection.
If you were there for the Louis Vuitton Don days or watched the jeen-yuhs trilogy, then you’ve probably heard of Ibn Jasper. Few folks have climbed the ranks from barber to designer, and even fewer have shoes named after them, but Jasper proves he’s cut from a different cloth.
Jasper aka Ferrari Murakami aka the Vulcanized King is no stranger to the sneaker game. Aside from designing kicks for his Stratica International brand, previous collaborations with Diamond Supply Co. and Converse are a testament to his approach. Ye even named a shoe from his iconic Louis Vuitton drop after the Chicago native.
Inspired by the hit TV show Overhaulin, this retro-modded Converse collab lies candidly at the intersection of motorsports and skateboarding. The One Star includes an added toe box and vulcanized heel support that almost mimics car bumpers, but functions to assist with skater's lateral movements.
The inside features a terrycloth lining complete with a cork-infused Ortholite sole. Jasper even takes it a step further with an additional Polyurethane foam strobel (think of those comfy mats that barbers stand on) for double impact protection to keep you at ease for any task. A reflective 3M snakeskin bumper at the heel and gold eyelets tack on the finishing touches for this one-of-a-kind shoe.
While you probably won’t be in the market for the grailed LV Jasper’s any time soon, you can grab the limited edition Converse collab in the Highsnobiety Shop from May 20.
