Isamaya Ffrench Is Off-White™s First-Ever Beauty Curator
Off-White™ Beauty has found its fearless leader. Isamaya Ffrench, the makeup artist beloved for her ability to transform faces into otherworldly works of art, will join the brand as Beauty Curator.
"Off-White™ speaks to a whole generation," Ffrench said in a statement. "Off-White™ Beauty will be the perfect way to bring this experience into a whole new dimension and I’m incredibly excited to be working on the beauty line in collaboration with Ibrahim Kamara, Off-White™ Art & Image Director, to address a new and vibrant audience."
Off-White™ launched beauty last April with a collection of fragrances, followed by a range of face crayons, nail polishes, nail stickers, and face decals. In September, the brand teamed up with Mattel Creations to bundle the offerings into limited-edition boxes featuring a surprise Masters of the Universe toy.
The line of cosmetics was one of the last projects former creative director Virgil Abloh touched before his death in November 2021. According to Off-White CEO Andrea Grilli, Ffrench's role as Beauty Curator was two-and-a-half years in the making, a decision that Abloh approved of. "Virgil loved her," Grilli noted in a recent interview with WWD.
While Ffrench has become something of a poster child for beauty's expressive, artistic new frontier, the creative has a wealth of experience working behind the scenes to bring a brand's vision to life.
The 33-year-old's résumé boasts stints Burberry, Tom Ford, Christian Louboutin, and most recently, Byredo (she stepped down as creative director of the brand's makeup division last March). Last June, Ffrench launched her own eponymous makeup line, ISAMAYA Beauty, where her dark, daring aesthetic shines through conceptual cosmetic offerings including BDSM-inspired mascaras and penis-shaped lipsticks.
Off-White™ Beauty is still in its early stages — under Ffrench's seasoned eye, the division is sure to grow bolder and even more beautiful.
