You Can Thank 'Sex & the City' for Bringing Jacquemus to NYC (EXCLUSIVE)
Everyone loves Jacquemus! Indeed, any city lucky enough to host only Jacquemus first-ever flagship store outside of his native France would love to have him.
Who ended up being the big winner? Why, New York City, of course.
What made up Jacquemus' mind? Why, Sex and the City, of course.
Okay, SatC probably wasn't the only factor earning NYC an all-new Jacquemus flagship store but it definitely helped.
"I used to watch Sex and the City all day, all night when I was 12," Simon Porte Jacquemus told Highsnobiety on the eve of his new store's opening in mid-October. "I'm obsessed with this city."
But whereas the HBO series was of the late '90s, Jacquemus' permanent NYC flagship, first announced by Highsnobiety earlier this year, is very much of the here and now.
Note the unpretentious façade obscuring a spacious interior loaded with wood furniture, fashion pictorials, and plentiful space for Jacquemus' signature accessories, aligning neatly with Jacquemus' extant outlets in France.
It's a clean, urbane space appropriate for one of the fashion world's preeminent talents, capping a banner year for Jacquemus.
Yes, ever since the label unveiled its Kendall Jenner campaign late last year, business has been booming (as if it ever wasn't).
For instance, Jacquemus continued snagging star talent throughout 2024, including BLACKPINK's Jennie, while rolling out (and selling out) more Nike collaborations, and hosting special events like an ongoing Nordstrom shop-in-shop. He also accepted a few prestigious honors, like France's Ordre des Arts et des Lettres and a set-decorating gig with Christie's.
And then Jacquemus took New York. 2025, here he comes.
"I felt that [NYC] was the right place to open our second flagship in the world," Jacquemus continued. "There is such a beautiful energy."
