JW Anderson’s UNIQLO Is For Life
JW Anderson and UNIQLO are back for another seasonal collection and this time they're honoring the lost craftsmanship of bygone clothing manufacturers.
I’m not normally someone who likes to reminisce too much but there is one thing that was undoubtedly better in the past: the quality of clothes. Finding clothes that last the test of time (and are affordable) is not easy and the two brands have set out to create just that.
“For this season we drew inspiration from the 1940s through 1960s Britain to showcase garment craftsmanship and durability,” designer Jonathon Anderson commented on the JW Anderson x UNIQLO SS24 collection.
The two brands have taken notes from mid-century British craftsmanship and replicated some of the techniques used then.
Comprised of 17 items (seven pieces of womenswear, eight pieces of menswear, and two accessories) the collection is releasing via UNIQLO's online store and select UK stores on April 18.
Like with previous releases from JW Anderson and UNIQLO, the collection consists of classic and highly wearable designs. Unlike many of the products you’ll find in JW Anderson’s mainline range (such as canary clutch bags or PVC frog-shaped loafers) this is versatile clothing that can easily be worn in the real world.
The selection includes knitted polo shirts, a flared skirt, and workwear-inspired tailoring that are all created as part of UNIQLO's LifeWear range.
Designed to be hard-wearing and simple, the LifeWear line is inspired by “the Japanese values of simplicity, quality, and longevity,” according to the Japanese brand. What makes UNIQLO stand out amongst other labels at its price bracket is its attention to detail and build quality; with LifeWear, it doubles down on these attributes.
The latest collection in a partnership that dates back to 2017 (speaking of life wear, I still regularly wear the checkered puffer coat from that debut collection seven years ago), SS24 continues to build on what has made UNIQLO x JW Anderson so great for all these years: it's JW Anderson's take on heritage wear with UNIQLO's signature, affordable craftsmanship.
