Kanye West's Gigantic Martine Rose Parka Is a Vibe
Kanye West has been hanging out with former Been Trill cohorts Matthew Williams and Virgil Abloh at New York Fashion Week: Men’s. Why were they meeting? We don't know. What were they talking about? Perhaps the shade of mint green that adorned Abloh's nails?
What we do know is that West has a new coat and it's very, very big. Big even for West, who has always adopted an oversized style. Not that we’re throwing shade — sure, the jacket kind of has him looking like a refrigerator, yet it works.
West's XXL faux-fur hooded parka is an older piece from Martine Rose's SS17, back when the designer was a hot new name for London fashion observers in the know. Among the oversized parkas, the collection explored how beloved vintage styles can be reimagined with exaggerated silhouettes, as exemplified by the slightly deformed but still highly successful Nike Air Monarch sneaker collaboration.
The fur-lined parka jacket originated centuries ago when Caribou Inuits wore it to stay warm in deathly arctic climates, but has become more commonly associated with military-wear and British mod subcultures. West has styled the piece with glasses from Oliver People, a Denim Tears x Levi's denim jacket, Kapital corduroy slacks, and a pair of YEEZY season 4 combat boots.
Sadly, West's classic green version is currently sold out, but you can cop the blue colorway below on Farfetch, along with some alternatives.
