Kanye West Will Debut His New Opera 'Mary' at Art Basel Miami Today
This week, Kanye West announced an opera titled Mary, which will premier today at Art Basel in Miami. The musical performance and follow-up to his debut opera, Nebuchadnezzar, is also directed by Ye's longtime creative partner Vanessa Beecroft. It will once again explore biblical themes and see Kanye tap his Sunday Service choir.
Kanye made the announcement via Twitter on Thursday, tweeting the opera's artwork, a gold bust (presumably of Mary), along with a bible verse from Luke 1:30–31. Take a look at the tweet below.
The opera will take place today, Sunday December 8, the last day of this year's Art Basel, at the Miami Marine Stadium. Tickets are available here.
Last month, Kanye took his first venture into the world of opera with Nebuchadnezzar, which premiered to rave reviews. The opera saw Kanye as the narrator, Sheck Wes as the titular Babylonian king Nebuchadnezzar, and musical performances by singer Peter Collins and Infinity’s Song.
