KEEN's Chunky Adventure Mule Is a Stylish Slip-On
KEEN has a history of being unintentionally stylish. Its sneaker-sandal hybrid shoes might be made purely for functional purposes but they’ve acquired a fashion-conscious audience, spurring big-name collaborations and inciting KEEN dupes by everyone from the high-fashion house Gucci to Nike’s cutting-edge ACG label.
Its latest creation, the KEEN Hypowser, is yet another of those moments where the Oregon-based brand has created a wholly practical shoe whose quirky features make a fashionable statement.
A blend of two signature KEEN models, it combines the puffy slip-on upper of its Howser model with the hyper-cushioned, ridge-shaped sole of its Hyperport sandal.
The slip-on adventure shoes have a high-traction outsole and rugged materials to make them suitable for casual days in the great outdoors mixed with the cozy comfort you can normally only find in house shoes. Plus, they don’t lack in looks.
Split between a women's model with a large strap running along its top (not too dissimilar from Kiko Kostadinov’s Tokin sneaker) and a men’s version with quick-cinch lacing, both pairs’ chunky soles give the slip-on a beefy profile in line with the quietly bubbling trend for orthopedic-looking footwear.
Both the women’s and men’s silhouettes (unfortunately, both variations aren't available in a full-size run) are available now for $130.
At the time of writing, there’s still a large selection of sizes available on the KEEN website but I wouldn’t bank on this being the case forever, slip-on outdoor footwear of this ilk has been known to sell out quickly.
