Primal Instincts? Cue the Season's Best Leathers, (Faux-)Furs, & Wools
If you're anything like me, then the only thing you own in abundance but still can't stop shopping for is transitional, mid-season jackets – aka, the kind of throw-over coats that are too warm to wear in summer, too cold to wear in winter, but by far the most fun to style.
Outerwear made of leather, (faux-)fur or wool is not a novel concept, by any means. I would argue, however, that – with cow hide's moo-mentum, post brat summer's return to more naturalistic colors, decreasing temperatures, and autumnal collections hitting shelves – the aforementioned materials are very forcefully reentering consumer consciousness.
Of course items of this genre are best scavenged for in thrift stores and second hand. If you don't consider yourselves gifted resale huntsmen though, fear not, for I have combed through some of the impending fall/winter 2024 season's most luscious leathers, faux-furs, and wools.
Wild Child: FW24 is Leather, Faux-Fur, and Wool Jackets
Acne Studios Shearling Jacket
Acne must be putting crack in their shearling jackets, because for as long as I've been aware of anything in fashion, people-in-the-know have been going crazy for them.
A.P.C. Faux-Shearling Jacket
If you'd prefer a vegan but equally good looking alternative, this A.P.C. jacket's got you covered – literally.
Ashley Williams Faux-Fur Jacket
Now this diva will only do you good if you want to command a room's attention, in a 90s R&B music video kind of way.
AURALEE Heavy Lamb Leather Zip Jacket
AURALEE's sensible tailoring was put to task here for the Japanese brand's hand at a heavy, buttery pilot style leather bomber.
DOCUMENT Tweed Herringbone Jacket
There's something very British, I find, about a colder wardrobe, and tweed jackets are the embodiment of what I mean when I say so.
Ernest W. Baker Faux Fur Coat
This luxurious (faux!) fur's more toned down than the above, with its same-length, chocolaty brown bristles.
The Row Long Leather Coat
Speaking of luxe: The Row's long leather jacket is easily the most expensive item on this list – and your wardrobe, I'd venture. But it's Italian-made, liquidy smooth, lamb's leather and silk composition is nothing short of sumptuous.
Séfr Coated Wool Jacket
This guy'll have you fooled: What looks like a raver's PVC biker jacket is, in actuality, coated twill. Thats right. Imagine a wool blazer, dipped in gooey resin, for a shiny Moo Deng finish.
