Lil Nas X spoke about his sexuality in a recent interview with The Guardian, revealing that he had serious hesitations about coming out as gay, and that it was actually his rise to fame that finally pushed him to speak his truth.

The rapper rose to fame last year with his trap-country hit "Old Town Road," publicly coming out as gay soon after. However, he now reveals originally he didn't plan to ever open up about his sexual orientation. “The honest truth is, I planned to die with the secret, but that changed when I became Lil Nas X."

Surprisingly Lil Nas X claims fame actually made it easier to come out. "It’s easier for me, I’m not depending on anybody. There’s no one who’s going to kick me out of the house – nobody to start treating me shitty."

"I 100% want to represent the LGBT community,” he continued, “[but] I don’t want to encourage them to do something they don’t 100% want to do. Especially in, like, middle school or high school. Because it’s just super hard."
