We Did Jorts, Now Loewe Says It's Time for Jeakers
If there was ever any need for proof of the power of the Y2K movement, Summer 2022 was it. The resurrection of denim in all its forms — needed or not — defined the warmer months, with jorts dominating the discourse. But while jorts might have been the main event, denim heads were emboldened to try just about anything, covering even the most banal items in full denim shells.
From denim-topped heels to TikTok users copying Elsa Hosk’s memorable denim cutoffs, there’s been a watershed moment in the world of denim experimentation, and Loewe just joined the party.
Loewe has been in the headlines recently thanks to its Howl’s Moving Castle collection, which reinterprets the iconic Studio Ghibli film for a luxury audience. But the JW Anderson-led label isn’t stopping there when it comes to viral moments. Behold, the Loewe Patchwork Denim Sneakers.
In typical Loewe style, these sneakers take a lightweight, slimline approach to sneaker design, finding its roots in the ‘70s and ‘80s, much like the famous Flow Runners. What does stand out about this pair, though, is the two-tone, distressed denim midsole and upper. Complete with buttons and rivets, the patchwork design features raw hems as though the material has been torn and reapplied.
Jonathan Anderson is no stranger to playful footwear design, stealing the limelight this past Fashion month with his Frog Shoes. Although the Loewe Patchwork Denim Sneakers might not be quite as striking as the amphibian slip-ons, they definitely embody Anderson’s desire to push the envelope.
