Attention, passengers: your Loro Piana flight from Peru to Mongolia via New Zealand and Australia is about to depart; please stow all Bale Bags in the overhead lockers, or under the seat in front of you.

Heavily inspired by its rich heritage in the textile world, the Bale Bag was designed to echo the shapes of fiber bales sourced by the Loro Piana family from the highlands of Mongolia and Inner Mongolia. Keen to keep the artisan tradition alive, Loro Piana continues to source bales from Mongolian nomadic shepherds and stores them in its spinning mill located in the small town of Roccapietra, in the Italian region of Piedmont.

The new bag features hand-stitched handles, a two-tone suede lining, and a removable inner pouch. It’s available in L and micro format, so whether the excursion is to the Michelin-starred restaurant down the street, or off to the Monaco Grand Prix — there’s a Bale Bag up for the job. Loro Piana is offering the bag in a wide range of colors, from classic Navy Blue, Kummel, and Warm Tan to seasonal hues like Tea Room, Dark Cerise, and Candoglia Marble.

Handmade out of fine-grained leather or rounded calfskin, the bag continues Loro Piana’s tradition of material mastery. Its consistency is reminiscent of cashmere — the fiber for which the brand is perhaps most known. The adjustable shoulder strap is another small detail that echoes the brand’s textile heritage — it wraps around the bag in a loop that resembles the cords and belts that were used to fasten the bales. So strap in, and head off on a journey of timeless elegance, flowing Prosecco, and Italian dolce vita.

The Bale Bag is available now in Loro Piana boutiques and on loropiana.com.
